build it...

 ...and they will come.
To me a garden is all about the wild life.
I've been trying to attract robins since we moved here,
and there are a few about.
I've noticed how they like to flit in and out
perching on pot plants and anything off the ground.
So yesterday I made this makeshift bird bath.
And today it was found.

The robin has also visited,
though as usual the sparrows are the majority!
At least our cohabiting friends are a little fresher now.

I think we need a bigger bath!

It's the little things in life which make me smile.
What can you do today that will make you smile?

That's just fantastic! We have to keep things higher off the ground because of the cat and the dog, but we've noticed how much our local birds love the edges of the swimming pool, where little drops of water collect and provide just enough for a thirsty bird. I guess my little thing is in fact pretty large - our cosmos has kept on growing in the indian summer until the plants and flowers are both huge! Towering pink cosmos is making me smile today!

They look like they're having the time of their lives! So so cute and such an ingenious idea with just a few terracotta pots. I've got my thinking cap on now... xx

Such a lovely sight, especially the three splashing around together. These pictures have made me smile today Clare. I saw a bat in the garden on Tuesday night and I have been smiling ever since! x

Isn't it funny how wildlife so easily adapt and settle in. Today I am working on something special for a friend :)hee hee

Brilliant idea. Theose little birdies are really loving it in there. I fear If I build one my cats would just drink from it (because obviously they don't get a big bowl of fresh water with their food twice a day!)

I no longer have to worry about cats v birds as we are now without a puss in the house. These pics are super, thanks for sharing.
And for the KC ref too.(my all time fave film)

Wow, I like what you like, when it comes to nature, they are so beautiful, just they way they are , I wish I could have left myself alone , not shaved or plucked or cut my hair or bleached or tinted or whatever disfigurement I did to myself to make me look better. I could have been ok just as I was too, what a lesson those birdies teach me. Plus they look like they are having a little meeting of some sort. They like it there.

Oh that is the sweetest thing, seeing little birds in your new birdbath.
I'll be very happy today when I see the Wattle birds (Australia) feeding from the flowers in my garden. They love the Chinese Lantern and Tinkerbell Fuschias.

Cheeky little chaps! Thank you for sharing some pretty awesome pictures of a now vanishing wee bird - we need to look after our little friends! You are doing a great job!

Thats brilliant! We have a family of Wrens living behind the garage. When 3 of the tiniest babies appeared in my garden I could have squelled. xxxx

Robin's love it when you rake leaves up, they come down straight away to pick up whatever has been turned up!
What has been making me smile today? Crazy Kittens!!! :)
Happy weekend Clare,
